What better way to finish 2018 than with a boozy long lunch?

From an Island Picnic to a Hidden Garden Party, the annual Christmas in July party plus more, it’s been another massive year in events for the Secret Foodies team. As we now approach the summer months, what better way to celebrate 2018 than with a long boozy lunch?

Guests were willingly lured to The Cannery, a dynamic food and drinks hub situated in the heart of Rosebery. Inside the warehouse-inspired space was our secret dining destination – Stanton & Co.

This refurbished industrial space boasts New York flare with lofty ceilings, exposed beams and a glistening bar. The restaurant itself is multifaceted, lending itself to a Japanese and contemporary Australian fusion menu. At the helm is Executive Chef Regan Porteous and his talented team. Since opening its doors in late 2017, Stanton & Co has drawn in hoards of hungry guests with its quality driven offering and refined yet friendly customer service.

For our boozy long lunch, it was a sunny spring afternoon when guests arrived. Greeting them on arrival was an array of drinks, including the newly released Cupio Rose – a light, dry and dangerously drinkable rosé wine.

Accompanying it was a choice of two cocktails, including an Elderflower Spritz and Summer Cooler Gin Fizz. Both equally refreshing, the Elderflower Spritz was made using Hayman’s Old Tom Gin, Fever Tree Elderflower Tonic and garnished with sprigs for fresh rosemary and boysenberries.

As for the Gin Fizz, guests were treated to a refreshing concoction made using Adelaide Hills Distillery 78 Degrees Gin, aromatic Fever Tree tonic and a lemon twist.

With a drink in hand and keen to soak up the sunshine, guests were lured towards Stanton & Co’s sundrenched balcony. Here, they were able to enjoy a welcome cocktail, before freshly shucked smokey soy truffle oysters circulated the space.

It was soon after these initial mingling drinks that it was time to be seated for lunch.

Having taken their seats on the long communal dining table, glasses were re-filled with a choice of Cupio rosé and gin cocktails before the first round of dishes hit the table.

For a light and palate cleansing start, Kingfish sashimi with yuzu soy and yukari was quick to hit the tables. Following on from it was a crowd pleaser – creamy mounds of burrata teamed with pickled onion and pistachio furikake. Crispy fried school prawns served with a tangy kimchee mayo marked the final share-style entrée to grace the communal table.

Glasses were soon refilled, before the next wave of mouth-watering dishes arrived. For mains, barley miso lamb shoulder evoked plenty of ‘wows’ around the room. Perfectly cooked and falling off the bone, the lamb came coated in a flavour laden spicy miso sauce. Teamed with creamy truffle mash potato, it was not only comforting, but incredibly delicious. To cut through the richness, charred cos lettuce with citrus garlic and pecorino also left the pass.

With stomachs comfortably full, Ms Darlinghurst, aka Alex Adams, greeted the room, introducing everything to Head Chef Jojo. Jojo spoke not only of how he came to work at Stanton & Co, but also of the menu and its Japanese influences. He revealed that he worked previously as a sushi chef, and that this training continues to carry through in his precision-style cooking at Stanton.

Dessert at Stanton & Co certainly didn’t come as an afterthought, as vibrantly coloured plates of red velvet pavlova hit the tables. Whipped cream worked in harmony with chunks of decadent red velvet cake and baby meringues. The most taxing element of this dish was having to share it with others!

As the day soon after came to a close, Ms Darlinghurst thanked guests for yet another fantastic event! We’ll be back in 2019, with plenty more fun foodie events to come.

Special thanks goes to the hard working team at Stanton & Co for making the day possible!

We would also like to thank both Cupio Wines, Hayman’s GinAdelaide Hills Distillery and Fever Tree for the suppling the drinks on the day.
